(a) Better now than later. We’re all getting older, and often times that means the best shape of our lives is in the rear-view mirror. Or even if we’re still in great shape, well, we’re older, and things aren’t the same. So that means the best time to wear a thong is right now. I look back at some of my pictures in a thong from 10 years ago, and I marvel at how much braver I should have been, because of the shape I was in and my youth.
(b) Better to wear a thong than not wear one. I look at some of my pictures from a few summers ago when I was 15 lbs overweight, and while I cringe a bit, I don’t regret it one bit. We’ve all got one life, limited time on this planet, and you can’t keep waiting for the ideal moment to do something. Don’t let perfect get in the way of good enough. I was overweight but I felt great wearing a thong, having the experience I wanted, instead of postponing my life.
Better now than later. Better to wear a thong than not wear one. Truer words could not be said. I wear a thong as my standard swimwear. I’m not model material or a bodybuilder. I do everything I can to keep myself in shape but a few pounds here and there are present. Would I like to not have those extra pounds, sure. But as much as I exercise and work my diet I still carry a little more than I would like. This doesn’t stop my thong wearing, my confidence or my joy. I get many compliments about wearing a thong. I think it’s a reflection of my confidence and joy. I’ve met many people who tell me that they wanted to talk to me because I have the confidence to wear a thong. I learned not to look for perfection. Rather look for joy, happiness and being true to yourself.
I agree. I’m already far healthier than most of my friends and family. There is no such thing as a perfect body. We’ll keep pushing to making thongs a non-issue.
My opinion is that policing beauty standards for the beach is a slippery slope we don’t want to be on. By all means, be fit. On the other hand, exclusion based on who-knows-what isn’t where we want to go.
Great post @eightythree! Wear what you want (in this context, thong at beach and pool) and be respectful and confident. And if wearing a thong is a motivator to getting/staying in shape, regardless of the result, great.
Hey there, I still have 10kg to go to reach my goal weight. But, the last 10kg has been hard because of the cold weather here in Canada. Fortunately, I haven’t gained any weight over the winter.
Becoming a nudist and wearing just a G-string in public at local lake has helped motivate me to stay in shape. I don’t want to look like a beached whale on the shore. That being said, I think most guys look fine in a thong or g-string.
I want to know what everyone’s workout routine is like.
I try to go to the gym at least four times a week. I do a lot of cardio because I want to lose weight.
I am trying to build my glutes at the same time, so I do leg presses, hip thrusts and Bulgarian Split Squats. However, I feel like my glutes have not gotten stronger.
All in all, I just want to look my best in a thong so that I can be a good male thong representative.
I’m a gym rat and workout six days a week at least two hours daily. Three days of swimming laps 2000 yards or more. Weightlifting weekdays. I either make my own food or eat with my mother as I’m her primary caretaker. Fitness has been a discipline for over twenty years.
Honestly, the best possible thing any of us can do to be a “good representative” is to not be creepy. It’s not about being fit (although that’s nice), it’s about being quietly self-confident, co-existing peacefully with everyone else on the beach.
I’m in the gym 5/6 days a week during the cold weather months. I spend 30 minutes on the elliptical machine, walk a mile on the track, spin 15 minutes on the stationary bike and do a 30/40 minutes weightlifting session. Since the pool closed for renovations I haven’t been swimming, which I would normally do. During the summer I cycle 30+ miles a day. With all of this I still carry more weight that I would like. In the gym and in life in general I tend to be the person wearing the brightest colors and wild styles. I get multiple compliments on my style and wardrobe. On the beach I’ll be wearing a thong. It’s the only swimwear I own except for my bikinis for lap swimming (since the gym doesn’t allow thongs). I love seeing people wearing thongs on the beach. It doesn’t matter the size, shape, color, gender or anything else. If someone is confident enough to wear a thong, I applaud them. I think a thong looks good on nearly every body.
Good to hear everyone’s fitness can inspire you. Just keep in mind the gym is for you, and nobody else. It should be a place of positivity because everyone there is working to improve themself. Be inspired, learn, and hopefully you can also inspire others.
I would also say that for a lot of people, the gym is “work” and there are many sports that are “fun”. If you can’t bring yourself to go to the gym because it feels like work, find some sports that are fun for you. It’s better to be doing anything than nothing.
Also, if you’re starting to get older you should prioritize flexibility over strength. Why? Because you won’t be able to do the workouts that maintain strength unless you’re flexible at baseline.
Agree. Many friends have asked me if they should start running to get into fitness. As a retired runner, I tell them unless you absolutely love to run, NO. Hobbies and activities you enjoy are the gateway to fitness. There is a lot of science behind fitness but at the same time, you can’t overthink it. Enjoying leisure activities and sports first, then use fitness as a means to keep you going.
In the “no shit, Sherlock” category, both swimming and SUP’ing are great low impact, full body workouts that, at least for me, are also fun. Those are my preferred summer sports.
I wish I could do outdoor activities all year round, but the Canadian winter forces me to stay indoors. That’s why I hit the gym for cardio instead of running or biking outside.
My question is for those who hit the gym. Do you find yourself doing more lower body exercises because you wear thongs in public?
