In order to keep this forum moving and interesting I thought I would start a new question. What is the best compliment, or compliments, you have received.
I’ll go first:
Last summer I was walking in an orange hunk thong on a quiet stretch of beach on the outer cape between two more crowded sections. About halfway in between, a late 30s ? attractive couple approached from the other direction. She was very outgoing and started a conversation which caught me off guard because I can be a bit more reserved. Anyway after chatting for a minute or so, she told me to “keep rocking my thong”and then her husband said said “I wish I had your confidence”
The second compliment that stands out was also from last summer and it came from the woman who has been waxing me for the last three years. Over the course of three weeks, I had laid out at like 8 different beaches and had savage thong tan lines to show for it. As I stripped down, she got to work and after I flipped over on my stomach…she made a nice but brief professional compliment on the tan lines. This lead to a more extensive conversation about how much time I had been spending on the beach but how I sometimes feel self conscious about wearing a thong as a guy. She said, don’t be silly…you look great and believe me I see a lot of people every week who shouldn’t wear a thong.
It’s funny that my goal is to be unremarkable and therefore not remarked upon. That being said, I don’t “hide”.
I sometimes wonder, what is a “compliment”? I was out (SUP) surfing today and finished up near the beach showers. I walked to the showers, rinsed off my wetsuit, and walked a few hundred yards back to my car in an M67, carrying my board and wetsuit. At the showers, the 1/2 dozen people there paid me no mind (goal achieved?). But as I was walking to my car I got pretty thoroughly checked out by a pretty woman walking towards me, who then gave me a glowing smile. Compliment? I’d like to think so.
When I got to my car and was leaning my board against a fence, another woman came up to me to ask, How is the water? How are the waves? Has the algae gone away? We chatted a bit, but honestly she and her BF were two minutes away from figuring out the answers on their own. She was wearing a very small thong herself. Solidarity? Who knows!
The memorable compliments are all pretty much like “I love your swimsuit!”, which I’ve gotten from both men and women and never ever heard when wearing board shorts.
The putting on and taking off the wetsuit among other surfers is always ripe for positive comments. I’ve been told, “see, that’s smart, that better than a towel change or stuffing trunks inside a wetsuit” and, “surf in just your thong?” Which I take it as a positive/break the ice comment that led to a good conversation on surfing in Costa Rica and cold waters in California.
I actually got my first couple of swim thongs for this exact reason: wearing under wetsuits, not having to change under a towel, not having to try to cram board shorts into a wetsuit.
Positive comment seem to be fairly common in my experience. Just a couple days ago I had a man ask to talk with me and my female friend. He said that he liked our confidence and our skimpy suits.
I had a couple (M/F) tell me that I “rock that thong.” When I wear some of my more unique patterns or metallic glitter thongs, I get told that my suit is great. I’ve also heard; you’re brave, I wish I could wear that, I wish my boyfriend would wear a thong…
This summer I was on vacation in Italy. There was a fantastic beach with azure blue water and a spectacular rock, a beautiful place to swim and take some nice beach pictures. I went there an early morning for a swim, and also decided to take some pictures and selfies. I was wearing a turquoise blue Olaf Benz thong. Suddenly a mature woman showed up for a morning swim. She approached me, smiled and asked me if she should take some pictures of me. She was wearing a beautiful multicolored skimpy bikini herself. I of course accepted I did some posing, and I was thrilled and inspired by her encouraging comments. We chatted a bit, and then I took a couple of pictures of here. It was such a great moment and experience, and even though she did not specifically comment on my thong, I really felt her support for men in thongs. What a blast
@cambridgeguy summed up my thought perfectly. Those beach days when people chat and interact all day and the topic is never that I am wearing a g string are just perfect.
Ha ha, today was another one of those days for me. I went to SUP surf but the wind conditions made it difficult, so I set up a towel next to a lifeguard chair. I was laying out in an M67 when a couple walked past me. The woman said “Oh, let’s set up here”, which they did, about 20 feet from me. She was wearing a thong under her shorts.
The wind and wave conditions, on the other hand, were excellent for body surfing, which I did for about 40 minutes. Nahant Beach is very long and you often have a good stretch of surf to yourself, so I was surprised when a pair of very pretty young women in very small thongs decided that the particular stretch where I was, was where they wanted to be as well. Safety in numbers? Checking me out? Who knows, but it was nice to share the waves with them.
I was there from 9am to 11:30. No comments from the lifeguard, from other people, at the showers, or in the parking lot.
Once again, I’m struck with the gap between “no comments” and “no guys in anything smaller than board shorts”.
The best comment I ever got is when I was having a walk on a very nice Dutch beach just south of Rotterdam.
I was wearing a Joe Snyder bulge thong in rainbow colors.
A lady of about 65 was walking the opposite direction and she stopped me. She told me that I look like an Adonys in that nice suit en walking the way I did. She thought I looked way better than all those men in boardshorts.
The only time I got a compliment (also the only time someone ever said anything) was this past December on the morning of Christmas Eve. My gf and I were on holiday and there is sort of a tidal pool where we went for an early morning dip, both wearing our thong swimsuits. This time of year there are people from all over the country, and it’s quite far away from Cape Town (where people are much more liberal), so it’s quite conservative really (lots of famers, people who aren’t from the big city) which is part of the reason why we went early.
When we got there, there was one car and we parked next to it, pointed towards the ocean and the tidal pool where we are about to swim. There was a person in the car but I figured I don’t care, they don’t have to look. We both strip to our thongs and walked to the water, dried off, tied my towel around my waist, and walked to the car. Suddenly the car window goes down, and there is a woman in the car, crying, drinking and smoking (this was around 7am). She asks if we are from South Africa (probably wanted to know if we aren’t European haha), to which I reply yes. She says someone just hurt her very bad which is why she is crying and drinking in the car alone the day before Christmas, but she wanted to say that our costumes made her laugh through her tears and made her day, and it’s wonderful to see that we are such a happy couple who can do this together.
I don’t know why but I asked something like “you’re not bothered by me wearing a thong?” and she said “You’re not hurting me, I’m not hurting you, theres no reason why I would be bothered by it”. I consoled her a little, she vented a bit, we went our separate ways, and I felt good the rest of the day.
It’s ironic, I was reading this thread and thinking that no one has complimented my thong. I’ve had people giggle and ignore what I’m wearing. But never complimented. Then the next morning I went lane swimming.
It was fairly good and uneventful, same as last week. Got a big smile from the life guard and a few extra looks (which was surprising as it was really dead).
I walked around the hot tub and got in, and as I sat down a woman (about 15-20 years older than me) commented that she liked my tattoo and was striking up a conversation. So I slid down and she said “I also really love your swimsuit. It looks great on you. Very European. Show these rednecks a thing or two. Where did you get it?” After a bit more chit chat about kids and life a friend of hers came into the tub. Immediately, “you’re going to love his little swimsuit.”
We talked and joked for about 15 minutes. People came and went, all knowing I was wearing a thong and just talking with 2 woman like a normal person. So I hope they got a good impression of men in thongs.
To wrap it up, as I was then leaving the tub, with one of the woman, I passed her on my way to the change room a few feet from the hot tub (she was going to a different pool) and as she looked me up and down said,“I love it”. Don’t know if I’ve ever been that objectified by a woman, haha!

It was such a great moment and experience, and even though she did not specifically comment on my thong, I really felt her support for men in thongs. What a blast
