My wife and I just got back from three weeks in Cyprus, staying with a friend and his lady. I knew we’d be going to different beaches, so I only packed two thongs knowing that I’d have to wear a thong on any beach we visited. 
First beach was Governor’s Beach, west of Limassol. Wore my blue Joe Snyder thong with no comments even though I was walking around in it. Very pleasingly, my friend was also wearing a thong, which surprised me as he had never worn one in public before.
A few days later, we went to the north of Cyprus to the stunning Big Sand Beach. I wore my black Olaf Benz Sunstring thong all day. My friend was also thonging. The ladies were in a bikini and a one piece. We did a lot of walking and kite flying in our thongs, but swam nude.
Another day, we found a small cove a few miles east of Big Sand and spent the morning there, me nude, friend in his thong except when he was nude for swimming. Back at the house, I was nude all the time, friends clothed. Non stop sunshine and the opportunity to wear a thong or be nude meant we had a good holiday. We saw plenty of women in thongs on the beach, but we were the only two men in thongs. I’m sure that imbalance will improve over time.
