Has anyone worn a thong or bikini on the beaches of Destin? Is it “legal” to do so? I have vacationed there several times and have never seen guys wearing either. I have worn short swimwear with a thong underneath (I despise the knee length board shorts) but would desperately love to wear my thong or bikinis while vacationing in Destin. Thoughts? Input?
Assuming thongs aren’t banned by the state or county, city ordinances typically define what is allowed.
Searching for keywords such as “indecent,” “exposure,” “lewd,” “morals,” “buttocks,” or similar terms will usually help you find the relevant section. Make sure you’re not looking at the rules for businesses; cities often forbid strip clubs and similar establishments, but may allow thong swimsuits on the beach.
I don’t see any of the usual language used to ban thongs, but there is one sentence that could come into play.
Breach of the peace; disorderly conduct. No person shall commit such acts as are of a nature to corrupt the public morals, or outrage the sense of public decency, or affect the peace and quiet of persons who may witness them, or engage in brawling or fighting, or engage in such conduct as to constitute a breach of the peace or disorderly conduct.
Personally, that wouldn’t stop me, but you should assess your own comfort level.
Thanks for the information!
I’d say a bikini is a definite nonissue. You could always layer a thong underneath your bikini and shed it if you feel comfortable.
All these legal terms and definitions can get so confusing. From my research, Federal laws don’t get detailed. State laws may have detail, but it’s really the local ordinance that needs to be posted. The ordinance is the level of “moral code” that we need to focus on changing. I never found an Illinois state law banning thongs or g strings. Illinois local ordinance hasn’t changed for a decade and it’s written so similarly to what’s posted. To me. this is a great way to learn about government bureaucracy. They copy and paste the federal statement, shove it from its 10000000 page laws and amendment documents into the state 10000000 page of laws. It’s trickle down red tape. Sorry to go down a negative path. My intent is we all work together to make things easier. Wearing thongs and g strings needs to be a low to zero moral value and priority. I’ve written to my local county to change it. I haven’t received any response. I need guidance on the proper process or level to contact my local representative. Seems like a grass roots campaign that can reach as far as the county.
Thus “Cambridge Guy’s rule” – if there are any women in thongs, go for it. Thongs are now so widely worn by women that if you don’t see any, that should be a red flag.
Women paved the way over the past 30 years, build on it.
Thank you. I appreciate it.
I love that rule and its one I live by too. I have never once had an issue following that rule.
