East Beach is located on Block Island Sound in Charlestown Rhode Island. It is about a mile long. There is a parking lot at one end and a breachway at the other, so access is from one direction only. The parking lot is very small meaning that if you want a spot you have to get there early on a good beach day (9 or 9:30 on a weekday). The plus side is that East Beach is never crowded. It’s quiet, secluded and thong friendly. At the water’s edge walk to the left a few hundred yards. Male and female thongers very common.

I’ve mentioned Goosewing Beach in a previous thread, farther to the east (in Little Compton on the MA border). I walk there from the town beach and haven’t gotten a second glance when I wear thongs there. It’s always crowded at the town beach and there are always women in thongs there, but the people thin out pretty quickly once you’ve walked a few hundred yards.

No. The only thong friendly beach I;ve been to in Mass. is Herrinng Cove, Then Moonstone in RI which was a nude beach. But it eventually got too crowded then a few years later closed altogether. I’ve been going to East beach for at least 20 years. A few years ago I got a 4x4 pickup truck and can go down as far as I want. I try to go once a week at least in the summer.
I went to East Beach 2x last summer and had no issues. I also went to Misquamicut State Beach 2x, Second Beach in Middletown 1x and another small community beach about 10 minutes north 1x.
Other than getting a wolf whistle at Second Beach, no one said anything at the other Rhode Island beaches but I’m sure I raised a few eyebrows.
Between New York, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont - I bet I wore a thong on roughly 20 beaches last summer.
East Beach is my favorite place locally for g-string and thonging. I’ve been going there for a few years, a handful of times a season. The best seems to be late summer once school starts. Just a few minutes walk to the left of where the lifeguard chairs are, it’s wide open space. You’ll see women sometimes right near the beginning where the access path from the parking lot is, wearing skimpy thongs/strings and untying their tops as they lay on their front. And most late afternoons you can see guys in thongs both there and of course much further down. I’m generally in a g-string and have setup near the water and near the dunes. When anyone walks past, I’ve always received smiles, sometimes small talk and sometimes compliments. Never a bad word. People aren’t there to scoff from my experience.
Perfect day at East Beach (Charlestown, RI). I arrived around 8:40, about 20 minutes before opening. Didn’t matter, I just drove in and headed down the 4x4 trail. The beach was totally deserted until a couple showed up around 10:00. Otherwise nobody - all day. It was bright and sunny around 70 (upwards of 90 was predicted by the weather guys on local TV – maybe inland but not the beach). The water temperature of Block Island sound is gradually rising – another month and I might actually go in all the way. I wore a miniscule tie side Candy Man g-string to and from the parking area as well as on the beach but could have gone nude all day.

I have made it to East Beach a few times this season, always on a weekday. Arriving around 9:00 and leaving around 2:00, driving my 4x4 about 3/4ths of a mile down the back trail to parking lot #2. Last Thursday it was a usual beach day but around noon a DEM officer came down the beach along the water’s edge in an ATV. This was the first time in at least a decade that I’d seen a member of law enforcement on East Beach. There is a “nudity prohibited” regulation but I was wearing a barely there CandyMan g-string. He gave me a close look but kept going. Although nudity is not uncommon at East Beach it might be a good idea to start being careful.
I returned to East Beach on Tuesday for what turned out to be a routine beach day in every respect. Perfect weather, very few people and very little worn (by me). Fortunately, there were no DEM officer patrols at all. The single seat ATV was also nowhere to be seen. Hopefully the DEM ATV cop visit of last week will turn out to be a once in a decade event.
Excellent day at East Beach. I arrived at 9 a.m. to find one 4x4 already in parking lot #2 (about ½ mile down the 4x4 trail. Over the course of the day there were the usual beach walkers and usual couples and family groups. I wore my usual tie side g-string. About 20 yards down the beach was another guy in a tiny g-string also basking in the sun. At one point an older guy walked by wearing a miniscule g-string. All of us scattered among more conventionally attired groups. As if it was the most routine situation conceivable – actually it pretty much was. The surf was unusually high for Block Island Sound (about 5 feet – all day), sun unusually intense (85 degrees and very humid).
Monday, September 30. Another outstanding day at East Beach. The entire day was mid-70’s, partly sunny. surf was virtually non-existent, water temperature very comfortable. The few greenheads were kept away by a few spurts of Deep Woods Off. Down by 4x4 lot #2 the usually sparse crowd was pretty much non-existent. Throughout the day there were very few walkers, one guy in an exceptionally tiny g-string passed by from way up the beach, walking as close to nude as can be without concern. There may have been other thongers but the distances between blankets were just too far to notice. I started the day in my usual tie side g-string bikini until the back strap snapped about halfway through the day. I gave my lady companion the choice for replacement between a neon green string bikini or a royal blue baggie. She picked the baggie – she said the yellow tie looked good with my tan. The days at East beach just don’t get any better.

Glad you enjoyed it. I had two great visits last year but the one time I tried to go this year the lot was full so I diverted to Misquamicut instead!
That’s always been a problem at East Beach. I’ve tried to arrive a little before the 9am opening and have only been shut out once is dozens of visits. In the last five years or so I have taken my 4x4 so the main parking lot is never a problem. The two weeks after Labor Day are the best: minimal parking problems, low attendance, relatively warm water. The beach opens for direct 4x4 traffic around September 15.
