Fort Desoto is my favorite beach to thong at on the West coast of Florida. Usually get there a couple times per month when the weather is nice. Lots of couples wearing thongs and single guys. On a good day you can usually see 10-15 people rocking thongs. Lots of beach and feels like you are on your own private island.

I too was out at Fort DeSoto on Saturday with the wife and 2 of her cousins and younger kids that are in the area visiting. We’re planning on Pass-a-grille but the traffic getting there steered us to the Fort.
We parked near the concession stand and went straight out to the beach from there. The amount of young ladies to those upwards of 40-50 wearing thongs was the most I’ve ever seen there! It was as if we were on South Beach or the clothing side of Haulover on a weekend.
Twice I looked around and counted the number of thongs in view and it was in excess of 30 each time.
The wife and I took a walk from there up to the north end, the area sometimes referred to as the thong ghetto. As soon as we were about 100 feet away I dropped my swimshorts and wore just my Vaquita thong. No stupid comments from anyone, no crazy looks, many smiles and a few approving nods from some women. The beach was the most crowded I have ever seen it.
On our walk I saw 12 other guys in thongs up and walking the beach. HizuruTees, I believe you were one of them, as I saw a guy walking in a yellow thong. The ghetto area seemed to be in good behavior with none of the shenanigans, that are sometimes witnessed, going on.
We haven’t been there in a while as we usually just take the boat out to Passage Key where we don’t have to wear anything. I really enjoyed our visit, really loved the sight of so many bare butts on the ladies, and being able to walk around in a thong on a packed beach like it was a completely normal thing!!

That was me, yellow thong, big legs? Say Hi next time. Yeah the Ft felt like South Beach that day, it was amazing. I don’t hang in the ghetto area anymore. As I have gotten more confident I’ve moved to mid-beach, just north of the gulf pier but south of the bird sanctuary.
The mid area is perfect for seeing ladies in thongs, not that I mind the dudes, but I prefer the ladies and I like it when they see me too. I walked down close to the board walks and one dude was in a pink-sheer-g-string. I couldn’t wear something that revealing but good for him.
There was an older lady, had to be in 60s, tiny thong bikini, just bending over without a care in the world picking up shells, good for her too. She saw me and said nothing. But yes there were thongs everywhere. I saw so many ladies walking and a couple guys walking with their partners. I’m sure I was the only solo guy walking.
I only been out of the ghetto area for a few months but it seems like thongs are common all up/down the beach. I’ll still walk to the thong area but don’t camp out. I’ll never hang out in the concession area either due to big, big crowds. But I’m so fired up that thongs are normalized here. I know it won’t always be packed. The secluded area chases off people when the no-see-ems arrive, or when the trails are all muddy.

I too saw the older woman wearing a thong, she was a bit skinny for my taste but still rocking it all the same! Didn’t see the sheer g-string, probably not the best suit for that area, but we can’t control others.
I’m with you on the mid-beach area, more pretty moman to see and less nefarious stuff going on. My wife also much prefers the shorter and drier trails.
Reading some of the comments on this thread, we should plan a get-together out there on the beach when things get warmer, especially the water!!!

Well if you see me introduce yourself. I’m a regular out there. I’m usually the only guy walking in a thong. As far as a meetup I prefer to be alone. My niece joins me sometimes.

Mid-30s guy here and newish to Florida. I’ve heard great things about Fort De Soto, and I’m not too far from there either. I’ve actually never tried beach thonging before, but this might be a good place for an initial test run. Trying to get out of my confort zone, and maybe get some sun.

A question for the folks on the west coast of Florida. It turns out I have business meetings in Clearwater in mid-April. I may extend my stay for two days to enjoy what I hope is warm weather.
What part of Fort De Soto Park’s beach should I visit one of the mornings? I’d obviously prefer to avoid what sounds like some skeevy areas.
And is there a preferred thong-friendly beach near Clearwater I can also visit?

i use to live in Tampa Bay area and the Fort was my goto beach. I alway preferred to park along the road North of the Fort but before you get to the North End picnic pavillions. But storms over the past few years have change the beach a bit. Futhermore they have added an bird sactuary and boat exclusion zone. My last visit I parked by the Fort but walk a bit north on the beach where other thongers tend to gather. I have never encounter sketchy behavior other than years ago on guy insisted on getting naked and an old prude walking the beach just to complain about the thongs called the ranger. The ranger repremanded to nude idiot but did not ticket or arrest.
Tampa is on my list to visit. Never been there and plan to swim laps at the outdoor pools more than go to the beach.
To answer your questions. At the Fort go to the area just north of the Pavillion/fishing pier. Anywhere on Ft DeSoto is fine for wearing thongs, but this is where you’re more likely to see others in them. The further north you walk, the less crowded it will be and the swimsuits will get smaller.
Much closer to Clearwater is Treasure Island Beach, you will occasionally other guys in thongs there.
I never wear anything more than a thong on either of these beaches, typically I go with g-strings on both of them.

I’m ok being the only guy in a thong, as long as there are women in thongs. Except for Provincetown, I never see other guys in thongs in New England.
Wife and I were at the Fort yesterday. Really nice weather and the trails were very dry. Saw about 10 others in thongs or G’s. Only one other couple like us were there in their thongs. There were about 4-5 single guys and 2 women. I was wearing an olive green Mucsleskins thong. Wife in a purple and black colored thong from Skinz. Was kinda surprised how many people were nude there. Did not see any rangers. Lots of walkers and snowbirds still around. Overall a very nice day.

Tinysuit, we’re you and your wife at the Fort this past Friday, the 20th? I’m thinking it may have been you. Wife and I were there with another couple, and set up just to the north of the northernmost trail. The ladies took their tops off in pretty short order and I was wearing a custom made shamrock thong since it was St Paddy’s Day week.

No. We were there on Sunday. Lots of guys there, single and couples. Only saw 2 other couples in their thongs. I wore a neon green thong and wife a black thong.

I was thinking it might be you, was planning to stop by to chat and when I got up from laying on my stomach to go over that couple was gone….
40-year-old male here. I’ve never worn a thong at a public beach before, but it’s something I’ve been wanting to try. Fort De Soto sounds like a good place based on what I’ve read in this thread.
It would definitely be more comfortable going with a companion or a small group of thong enthusiasts rather than going alone. Is anyone interested in meeting up there sometime?
Something similar to the Sun Splash Thongers weekend in Fort Lauderdale would be great. If anyone else is interested or planning a visit, feel free to reply or message.

In the Tampa/St Pete’s area for a few days, heading to Ft De Soto tomorrow.
Yesterday I went to Honeymoon Island with my GF because it’s close to where we’re staying. The main beach is pretty conservative, so we walked to North Point. You have to walk a mile to get there, so it’s pretty isolated. It’s a nice spot and we had no issues wearing thongs there.
Today I drove with a friend to Sunset Beach in St Pete’s. It was more crowded, a lot of the women were in thongs and there were guys in speedos and square-cut briefs. I was the only guy in a thong (one of my more “modest” ones), which attracted little to no attention. I’d say this beach is a very good bet.

I been to sunset, great beach, yes lots of thongs, just too crowded for my taste. Like what you like and keep on thonging.
