Sunset wasn’t too crowded, probably because it was early afternoon on a weekday, but I’m sure it gets much worse.
Today we went to Fort De Soto at the North Beach area. It was not crowded at first because we arrived early, and stayed from 9am to 11:30. My GF was topless in a thong, I wore a Skinz M67. As more people arrived, neither of us got more than a quick second glance. It’s a lovely state park!
I carefully reviewed all the results from a Google search, and there appeared to be no consensus whatsoever on the legality. Given that people on this forum said they wear thongs there, I figured I’d just go for it. My GF usually goes topless first and makes any necessary adjustments only if asked, which never seems to happen.
That being said, a Park Ranger vehicle did pull up next to me where there were some fisherman, so I put on board shorts for the five minutes they were there to avoid any confrontation; it didn’t seem worth the potential trouble. Dozens and dozens of people walked past us (including a group of two families with kids who set down 25 feet away) and didn’t comment, so I didn’t see that there is any issue.
Fort Desoto is one of the most thong friendly beaches in the area. When I lived in the Tampa Bay Area, it was always my first choice and favorite. At one time, going back to the 1980s, I recall Clearwater Beach prohibited thongs. I am sure that attitude is long gone…at least for females.
As TxMicro said, the Fort is a county park. As for legality, you are perfectly legal to wear a thong/g-string there. I’ve been seen by the rangers there in a g-string many times, no issues. I’ve chatted with them while wearing one as well. They are quite accustomed to seeing them there, as are the people who frequent the Fort.
Long time reader first time poster. Been a thong enjoyer at home and around my pool for years now. After reading all the posts i figured i need to rip the bandaid off and go to Fort de soto. Had a wonderful time this morning. 2 couples men and women in thongs and 3 other men also in thongs. Certainly was refreshing to be among like minded people. No creeper, nothinf but positive vibes. Maybe one day we will get lucky and have an official clothing optional beach.
