My favorite swimsuits are the ones I wear most often. I have the original Grand Axis swim thong, but rarely wear it. The small is too skimpy in the front. The medium has a less revealing pouch, but doesn’t fit as well; the fabric puckers at the top.
Grand Axis recently restocked their inventory and released an updated swim thong with an “improved fit” in part to address the problem I had with the original. There’s a detailed description of the changes on the website. In summary, the small and medium are more true to size and have a roomier pouch.
I ordered two: classic blue and olive. I’d prefer a darker color or black, but the other options are bright pink, yellow, and the like. There are no patterns.
Like the original, they’re well made and the sizing is consistent. Warnings on the website about caring for the fabric make me wonder how well they’ll hold up over time, but they don’t seem to be too delicate. The new design fixed the problem I had with the old one. They cover more in the front. Nevertheless, I still don’t wear the Grand Axis swim thong as often as other swimsuits.
Different swimsuits flatter different bodies. Steve Grand, the owner, designer, and model in all of the photos on the Grand Axis website is 5’11", weighs 210 pounds, and has a 33" waist according to the information in the size chart. I’m shorter and, although I stay in shape, nowhere near as muscular. He looks great in this posing suit inspired thong. I think I look better in a swim brief–esque style.
For me, the Grand Axis swim thong is too showy for everyday wear. The pouch has a mild enhancing effect, and, combined with the minimal cut, is pushing the limit for the places I frequent. It’s designed to fit snugly, and the light colored solid fabrics leave very little to the imagination.
While it’s not my favorite, it could be yours. If you like the design, the new Grand Axis swim thong is a worth a look.
