My First Swim Thong

I got a couple of Jack Adams “Bondi” thongs several years back to wear under wetsuits because (1) board shorts are terrible under wetsuits and (2) I always felt like I was at risk of someone complaining about me when I was changing since the sensible alternative is going commando.

Then I realized, nobody much cares what I’m wearing and honestly, thongs are just the right tool for the job at the beach. I’ll wear the more “modest” Jack Adams when I’m checking out a new beach, then switch to the slightly smaller Skinz M67 once it seems like that beach is ok with a guy in a thong.

Old thread, but I wanted to share my story. My first swim thong was something I bought during a family holiday in Gran Canaria (I might have said Mallorca in another thread, but my memory played tricks on me). The year was 2005, and it was a light blue thong from a brand called Sauwy. I spotted it on a rack in a small shop and just knew I had to buy it.

Later that day, I found an excuse to go out on my own and headed to the beach. I chose a spot near a group of women wearing thongs, it somehow felt necessary to be close to others doing the same. I didn’t stay out for very long, but the feeling was exhilarating. It felt right, and I was hooked.

I ended up buying a red, black, green, and orange thong from the same brand. They lost their shape pretty quickly, but I still have the green one as a kind of memory.

Back home, I mostly used them for sunbathing in the backyard. It took a few more years before I felt confident enough to start thonging on the beaches in Finland. It wasn’t until I moved to Turku that I finally built up the confidence. Being in a new place helped, and discovering Joe Snyder thongs, which became my go‑to brand for many years.

My first swim thong was actually a g-string. I was stationed in Hawaii and rode my bike to Diamond Head, about 35 years ago. I was finally brave enough to wear a Speedo to the beach and when I saw this guy tanning in a g-string, I figured go for it. Got the nerve to ask where he bought it from. Hot Stuff Hawaii if I remember correctly. Went there, bought one and it’s been ultimate tanning ever since!

My first swim thong was a Cocksox swim thong purchased only a couple years ago. I have no idea why I waited so long! After I purchased the first one, I proceeded to purchase every available color. This is now my swim thong of choice whenever I go to a venue that allows thongs and g-strings. I also wear them as underwear on a daily basis.

When I feel more daring, I’ll wear a the-bikini.com tear drop g-string. I have almost all the colors, including the four available in see-through mesh material. I hope to wear these to South Beach someday. I am going to Florida in March. I will be visiting the Skinzwear store in Clearwater. I already inquired about available stock and if I can try on different suits. They said they will have stock in the styles and colors I maybe interested in and that I can try them on before purchasing. I am looking forward to this trip and can’t wait to wear these new suits on all the beaches in Volusia County (Daytona Beach area where thongs and g-strings are legal).

Diamond Head was also one of the first places I wore a swim thong in public.

My first swim thong was from sunup/sundown. I recall that the material was more rigid than most suits today which have a high spandex content. They stayed in place well and always felt tight. This felt a little annoying when bending down, etc. but they stayed in place very well. It also took me a while to try an unlined suit for obvious reasons but now that is all I wear and most are unlined these days anyway. I recall a number of years ago we had about 5 RonJon surf shops in the metro and they all carried mens thongs. I always looked at them but I found better ones online. I also recall going to a swimwear store called Anything But Water. I asked the sales associate if they carried tan thru suits. She said no but brought me to a different area and showed me some thongs. It was great that they carried mens thongs but they only had a few and I didnt like the prints. I prefer solid colors. Unfortunately, I don’t know of any stores that carry mens thong swimsuits around here anymore. Anything But Water has switched to just womens swimwear and RonJons is long gone.

In the mid 1980s I discovered how much more comfortable bikinis were as opposed to trunks. It did take very long for my bikinis to get smaller and smaller. So my first thong was just a basic black and not very small. During the 80s in Florida, department stores sold men’s thongs so I acquired several although I don’t recall the brands. Then I found skinzwear in Clearwater. My favorite was a hot pink and orange and may have been a g-sting. Sadly many of the local beaches began to outlaw thongs.

Yes how ironic and sad it is that you can but amazing fitting thongs from Skinz right in clearwater and you supposedly can’t wear them on the beaches though although I’ve seen several women still wear them on the clearwater beaches.

Yes, this is extremely ironic. I always wondered if the store was in Miami or Fort Lauderdale, how much more business it would do. Imagine purchasing a thong in a store and then walking out of the store, wearing it on your way to the beach.

First thong experience was a black Joe Snyder Bulge on Pea Island along the Outer Banks!
