My First Swim Thong

My interest in thong swimwear started sometime around 2000. Up to that point, all of my clothing had been purchased from brick and mortar stores or, less frequently, through catalogs. None of them, as far as I can recall, carried thong swimsuits.

It was the peak of the dot-com bubble. Everyone was opening online stores. I don’t remember how I found them, but I came across two that sold thongs: Prevail Sport and Undergear.

The first swim thong I purchased was the Undergear Pocket Thong.

Minimum coverage for maximum sun exposure. The front pouch has a natural seam for definition and comfort with a string waist and thong back.

It was a disappointment.

The color didn’t suit me. It didn’t fit well and was uncomfortable. I think I returned it.

It was a while before I tried another swim thong. I purchased a few, but none of them were right for me. They were never used. I banished them to the bottom of the drawer until they were thrown out along with other unwanted clothing.

Then I found N2N. I tried their bikinis first, and was quite happy with the design. By then, I’d mostly given up on thongs. It was a few more years before I gave N2N’s swim thong a shot. I regretted waiting so long.

It was exactly what I’d been looking for.

What was your first swim thong?

Like the previous post, my first thong was also the pocket thong from Undergear. I loved it! I saw it in the catalogue and wondered who on earth would dare wear something so skimpy. Where on earth would you wear it? And then…I saw it being worn on South Beach, Florida. I had just arrived at the beach and there was a guy standing before me in the pocket thong. I was totally in awe, captivated, and somewhat in shock. I now knew that guys actually wore things like this. I now knew that it was OK to wear them in Florida. I came home from vacation and immediately ordered one. By the following summer I had ordered another color. On my next trip to Florida, I proudly wore my pocket thongs. What a thrill!

My first thong was in 1984, a Royal Blue Hom g-string. Saw it in a window in Brighton, where I was living at the time. Wore it a few times on the beach and a lot in Ibiza. Still have it after all these years but it must have shrunk as I can’t get into it anymore! Perhaps one day. All my swimwear and underwear is all thongs and g’s. Loving it!

That’s awesome, @Luvnmythong. I wish I still had my Undergear Pocket Thong. My opinion may not have changed in the intervening time, but it would be interesting to find out. So cool to learn that you had a parallel experience.

I also wore thongs (strictly g-strings) to the beach for the first time in the late 80s. One was a classic HOM g-string, and the other was a g-string by a maker of exotic clothing in a back lane near my work. Was a time when lots of guys in Europe (especially France) wore them at the beach. I was both anxious and happy to be wearing them at the beach.

My first swim thong was a black Desmiit. I now also have one in Navy Blue, and Light Blue. I swim laps at an indoor pool when them daily since about the time Covid started. I now have a few OrocoJuco and a few no name thongs in my rotation as well. Most are solid neutral colors, I have 2 that are sort of a comic book print that I got off of Ali Express. All are rather conservative in “cut” but unmistakable as thongs. Be confident, Act normal, Be friendly, and the suit won’t matter.

I had forgotten about my first thong. I thought it had been a local purchase here in Venice Beach circa 1998, but I remembered having an earlier pair in college. I don’t remember where I had purchased it, but it had been a couple even earlier that in high school my older, and kinkier, girlfriend had bought for me. It wasn’t until the 1998 purchase that I started wearing thongs as beachwear, and I have exclusively been wearing them as such ever since. No brand out of the box has fit the way I prefer, so I’ve learned to use a needle to modify them to my personal preference: a little bit up and a little bit out. It seems that the very small and very narrow still attracts a lot of looks, but the speedo style don’t generate hardly any reactions.

You might like Muscleskins. They’re made to order, and you can fine tune the fit.

First swim thong was a cheap Desmiit swim thong from Amazon. Honestly, it’s still one of the best swim thongs I own; comfortable and you can’t beat the price ($14). There are definitely more flashy thongs out there, but many of them are $50-150.

Though not technically a swim thong, the first thong I ever wore on the beach was a Joe Snyder I bought in Cancun in 1998. I bought three: black, turquoise, and navy. My father was mortified, but I was a very happy young man.

Two years ago, I bought a few Desmiit swim thongs after finally wearing swim briefs to the beach at the age of 50 for a season. The first time I wore a swim thong (turquoise) in public was at Laguna Beach, CA. I felt exhilarated while swimming out in the water or on the sand. I’ll never forget the feeling of freedom and joy I had that day and continue to have each time I’m wearing a different color or brand of thong out in the ocean or at hotel resort and spa.

Thanks. I have several from Muscleskins. I especially like the very narrow 1/2 cm as well as the more conservative 2 in sides.

What I’ve learned is that even a custom made suit is still not right here or there, but my own tuck here and there makes even a Muscleskins fit even better!

I can’t recall the brand of my first swim thong. I found it in a smaller, local department store in Hawaii. It definitely wasn’t one of the bigger brands most of us know now. I was actually 17 at the time and started shuffling through a rack of swimsuits in the mens department at this store in Hawaii. I was by myself at the store as I had gone into it looking for some socks I forgot to pack for the trip. At first glance they all looked to be bikini brief styles on the sales rack, which I was wearing at the time in the backyard and occasionally on the beach during summer vacations in Hawaii. Anyways, I came across a section of thongs on this rack of speedo/bikini brief style suits. I was totally intrigued and bought one on the spot. Without going into further detail on my journey into swim thongs, that was the start of it, and basically never looked back from there.

I don’t remember the first swim thong I purchased. They were mostly cheap brands from eBay, and I didn’t have the confidence to wear them. The first thong that I purchased that I both liked and eventually wore publicly was from a local swimsuit manufacturer, Fresh Peaches. The lady there mostly produces women swimsuits, but I asked for a special fabric and she was able to make me a swimsuit out of what she had.

My first swim thong was from Tropical Thongs. It’s a yellow, pink, and green tie-dye looking color. At the time, I was thinking about getting a pair from them but never pulled the trigger until about 4 years ago. Took me a minute to get use to how the thong fit on me; the fit was a little different than the thongs I wear every day. But now that I am use to it, I love them!

As a Hawaii resident, I’m amazed you found swim thongs on the rack, particularly on the outer islands. Glad you found them, though!

Well, it was some time ago. I don’t think the store is even around anymore but the store also, at the time at least, did the gift shops in many of the resorts so I ended up seeing the same brand of things in those shops too. This was on Maui.

I guess my first true swim thong was from N2N when I got it at their first store on Sunset in West Hollywood. I was with the team and decided to get a swim thong for practice. My coach wasn’t mad; she just said to wear it for practice and not for swim meets. Overall, I guess that’s when it all started.
