I’m curious about the beach scene in New Zealand. My wife and I are considering a trip there sometime in the next 12 months and would love some recommendations from anyone familiar with the beaches.
Are there certain beaches or areas where thong swimwear is more common or generally accepted? We both typically wear thongs at the beach, although I’m usually the only guy wearing one.
Any suggestions on good beaches or places where we’d feel comfortable would be appreciated.
New Zealand has a lot of empty beaches or parts of beaches that are empty. And you won’t encounter problems there from anyone. Generally people won’t tell you if they have an issue with your swimwear like they might in America but rather just keep it to themselves. But I’ve had good success at wearing thongs on a couple of occasions in fairly busy New Zealand beaches. Happy to DM about any specifics. Also this podcast episode is about thongs in New Zealand.
I’ve had no issues in the past. People tend to mind their own business and are pretty relaxed. Top tip, put on plenty of sun block as the UV rays are pretty strong in NZ.
