I was wearing my new royal blue Muscleskins thong and besides working on my tan, I also walked the length of the beach (maybe 1.5 miles?) and went in the water a couple of times to cool off.
A handful of ladies showing off in their thongs too. I did get a few smiles/hellos from passerby’s during my walk along with a few raised eyebrows but overall a great experience.
I’m glad it’s finally warming up on the upper East Coast. Glad you had a great day! I made it to the pool for about an hour in my Joe Snyder Capri (JS05). I was told thongs weren’t allowed but the capri was a ok. Make it make sense. … tomorrow I get on a plane to Miami for four days!
Enjoy Miami. I’m considering a short vacation there some time this year. Nothing planned. I would really like to get a swim at the private lake Laguna Solé. Unfortunately it’s a private luxury community and I don’t see any airbnb or vrbo rentals.
I went to Nahant to catch the knee-high waves on my SUP, then used the showers to take off and rinse my wetsuit, wearing a royal purple Skinz M67. Six teenage girls (all wearing rather small thongs) and three teenage guys in huge board shorts, one of whom exclaimed “oh shit!” LOL; if the girls cared, they didn’t show it.
Then to the beach for a bit to catch some sun and a quick dip. As I was walking back to my car, three more high school girls in thongs and three high school guys. One of the girls said “He’s wearing a thong!” and seemed vexed by the idea.
I’m well past the age where I care what high school girls think. I’ve done the “take off wetsuit and rinse off at the showers” thing more than a few times in somewhat larger suits, but it still makes me feel a bit nervous – and those M67s are pretty small.
Glad you had fun in Nahant. It was such a gorgeous day!
And yes, the M67s are small but I intend to wear mine to the beach next because this muscleskin one is falling apart already (stitching pulling out) on day one. While I love the royal blue color and the cut, the quality from Skinzwear seems to be way better!
It was very, very liberating to sun my buns and walk the entire beach in Ogunquit and go for multiple swims. While I’m sure there were comments made at my expense, the only thing heard was from an older, not very well kept woman who was walking with her husband and he said something to her and she burst out laughing as they approached me.
I killed them with kindness and said Hello and stood tall and smiled.
I’ve been surprised with the trend over the last four or five years at the number of Women who are wearing thongs, never mind the high number of women who are wearing cheeky/Brazilian suits on the upper east cost. My local pool will have women as young as high school kids to women in their 50s wearing thongs and cheeky suits. Everyone accepts it. Yet there’s still is a stigma if someone sees a male in anything but shorts.
At my local beaches last and this years, I’d say the number of women under 30 wearing thongs is now in the 65-75% range, 40-50% for women 30-40, and at least 25% of the women (including my GF) in their 40s as well. The high school girls at the beach I surf at, it’s probably close to 90% (the girls not wearing thongs are, by far, the exception now); it’s easy to tell they’re high school girls because the guys they hang out with are obviously high school boys.
Number of guys in square-cut suits – 1%
Number of guys in speedo-style suits – 1%
Number of guys in thongs – 1 (me)
I’m not much of a beach person. I prefer swimming pools to take advantage of swimming, tanning, and wearing thongs or g strings. I visited San Juan a few months ago and was the only guy wearing one. I’d say probably 5% of women wore them, but generally when I ask locals they have no issues. It’s only tourists.
One. There was one father that asked me not to wear them and I kindly switched to regular bikini briefs. It was one time two years ago. I’ve worn thongs with no issues on crowded days with families. Nobody has issues.
