Running Into Friends by Chance

I’ve worn thongs to beach with my GF (of course) and my son and a few friends, but I’ve always wondered what would happen if I ran into someone I knew by chance.

Today I found out. TL;DR – proceed as usual.

Long version. I was at Nahant today and caught about 60 minutes of the best SUP surfing all summer, but then the wind turned around and spoiled the fun. I was wearing my shortie wetsuit going back to my car when I ran into an old friend and her husband and brother-in-law. She said, “We’ll set up over there, come join us!”

I put away my SUP, took off my wetsuit, put on board shorts, and went to find them. “Sit here, sit here,” said she. So I took off my boardies, sat down with her, and we chatted for the next 90 minutes, with me taking a 30 minute break from talking to boogie board (which was a good move, it was. the best east coast session I’ve had). She joined me at the water, then we chatted some more until it was time for all of us to head home. No comments, no surprised looks. If anything, hanging out with a couple of other people made me feel more comfortable, not less.
