I went to Goosewing Beach in Little Compton, RI on Saturday; you park at South Shore Beach and walk a 1/2 mile east. It’s a gem that’s now owned by the Nature Conservancy and is rich with wildlife: many species of birds, fish, crabs, deer, otters, etc. The downside is that it’s pretty expensive to park here now.
Ha ha, it was also the most “dressed” beach I’ve been to in a while, with all the women in fairly conservative bikinis and one-piece suits. There were only a few people where I was, 3/4 of a mile from the parking area and early in the day, so I ignored my usual “when in Rome” rule and wore one of my Skinz M67 thongs. I was there for a few hours and didn’t get a second glance, either in the water or on the beach. (I’ve been here many times over the years and didn’t expect any issues, but still…)
When I got back to the crowded part of the beach in front of the parking area, there were a dozen young women in thongs, so in hindsight it was surprising that the more remote part of the beach was so much more conservative.
I went to Nahant on Sunday to enjoy SUP surfing on the endless, rolling 2’ waves, and then sat out in the sun in a (different) M67 for a half hour before heading home. Many women in thongs, as always and, much to my surprise, another guy with a SUP who was – gasp! – sunning in a Speedo-style suit. Lightning didn’t strike him, either. Who knows, maybe he’ll be motivated to show up in a thong sometime.
