Heading to Galveston area for work in November.
Looking for recommendations as to which beaches to go to and thong friendly hotels/resorts to stay at.
I’m not opposed to driving down to South Padre Island for a couple of days if it is nicer there than Galveston.
Also, unless some random cold front moves in…would it be safe to say to expect temps around high 70s/low 80s?
I go to Galveston all the time. Thongs have never a been a problem at anyplace I’ve gone this includes best western, wyhndam hotels or any hotel on the seawall. Ive walked around in a swim thong all over. It just depends on what you are comfortable with. but no one there actually cares. You might get a few honks or smirks.
Thank you for the feedback. My only hesitation on Galveston is I heard the water is kinda, murky and gross. That’s why I was thinking of driving toward South Padre.
I live north of Houston and don’t go to Galveston often. When I do it is East Beach. Lot 1a. This area is removed from the crowds but popular with thongers of all persuasions.
TXMicro- what is your preferred beach to visit on the Gulf coast?
Galveston is downstream from very industrial areas of the Houston ship channel and numerous petrochemical facilities. But the main reason for murky water on the Texas coast is the clay content of the soil. That said I do not get in water where I can’t see my feet on the bottom.
Keep in mind the poem, “The sun is riz, the sun is set, we ain’t out of Texas yet.”. Texas is a big place, Houston to South Padre Island is a VERY long drive.
best western east beach is very tolerant I’ve thonged there just a few weeks ago. Not an issue
My wife and I make an annual trip to Galveston in the late summer. We typically stay around the middle section of the beach (along Sea Wall) and don’t see many others in thongs. We’ve never had any issues wearing them though. It sounds like thongs are more prevalent on East beach. We’ll definitely be checking it out this summer.
Trust me waring a thong there is fine. The people there are very tolerant and won’t bat an eye although you won’t see a bunch of guys wearing thongs on one visit. Ive been going for years and I’ve seen it and done it enough to know that it isn’t a problem with the locals.
I am heading to Galveston East Beach Friday 5/15. I hope to see fellow thongers.
Shoot. We’ll miss you by a couple days. My wife and I will be there all next week. We plan to hit East beach and a few others.
Galvestion was very pleasant. The first part of the day I decided to go to Apfel Park on the East end. Parking is $15 but it gave me access to showers and restroom. The beach was not crowded, the nearest couples were about 50 yards on either side. It was sunny with some clouds and a steady breeze. I wore my M55 mesh and no one seemed to care although I did not stroll past families. No other thongers. Later in the afternoon I moved to the beach at Lot 1A. Other than no facilities, its a nicer beach because it is raked to remove seaweed. and had no families. Again very few peole and no thongers.
For me, it is a long drive. With Houston traffic, 2.5 hours each way so both ways I spent as much time driving as I did on the beach. Next time I have to consider an overnight stay.
My wife and I spent the last week in Galveston (Sunday through Friday) and laid out on East Beach every day. We parked at lot 1A most of the time. She wore a thong bikini and I wore a swim thong every day. We had zero issues all week and even saw another couple in thongs on Wednesday and a gentleman in a thong on Thursday. We took walks and got in the water multiple times with people around and no one seemed to mind. A few seemed intrigued (in a good way) and made it a point to walk by us. Some more than once. We also walked the beach along Sea Wall in thongs every night after we ate dinner. It was an awesome week and we can’t wait to return in late August/early September. I wore several different brands including Bang!, Skinz, Grand Axis, Gregg Homme, Desmiit, Joe Snyder and JAXFSTK. If you’re thinking about going there, I highly recommend it. We go at least once a year but will probably start going twice a year in the future. We absolutely love it.
Hey everyone, we live in the South Padre Island area and, honestly, the beach here is way nicer than Galveston. Lately, you see more and more girls wearing thongs on the beach, while most guys stick to boardshorts. My wife even wears really revealing G-strings in some areas without any issues at all! Cheers!
I agree the beaches are nicer on South Padr than eastern shore in Texas..
But for me it’s a six to seven hour drive. In just an hour or two I can be in Pensacola.
Are there any recommendations for beaches near Corpus Christi area?
I have only been to the National Seashore. The rangers don’t care what you wear as long as you aren’t a problem. If you go farther down the coast west of Malaquite you can be nude with some discretion. But I’ve never encounter many people, or a single fellow thongers.
