A friend and I are headed to Hawaii this winter to get some sun and escape the winter for a while. Can anyone tell me some beaches that are thong friendly there?
I was stationed there years ago and lucky enough to have a base pass for the beaches. Waikiki near the Royal Hawaiian (pink hotel) always had the “beautiful people, built and the skimpiest suits! Love to hear about your trip, hope to get back there someday soon.

Which Island are you going to? Last time I was in Oahu I wore a thong at Diamond Head Beach Park. No issues at all.

From what I read online, Diamond Head Beach was an unofficial nude beach for a long time. Didn’t see any nude sunbathers when I was there a year ago. But I felt perfectly comfortable in a thong on the beach.

I’ve been to the big island, maui, Oahu and kauai. I’ve worn a thong at nearly every beach and while snorkeling. I’ve learned that no one really cares. My opinion is if you want to wear them then do it. Enjoy your life, wear a thong and have no regrets. You only get one life to enjoy.

I’ve had similar experiences. I’ve worn thongs and in some instances gstrings on Maui, Kauai, Oahu, and the big island with no issues. Usual things applied. I steered away from large pockets of families, etc. Just generally respectful and nobody seemed to care.

Im in Maui for about 2 weeks. Spent most of the day in Hana on Hamoa beach which is one of my favorite beaches. My wife and I thonged all day. Over the day maybe 30 other families showed up and about a dozen women all wearing thongs. Didn’t get have any issues being the only male wearing a thong. Went to Wailua falls in the afternoon. Not many people and no one cared we were wearing the only ones wearing thongs. Im planning to wear thongs to all the beaches I travel to while here.

Wife and i spent the day at Red sand beach in Hana. It is the unofficial nude beach on the east side of Maui. Wife and I thonged all day without any issues. A monk seal napped for the entire day on the beach. Throughout the day we counted over 20 females in thongs and 5 men fully nude. At least 50% of the women who visited the beach wore a thong. I was the only male in a thong. There was plenty of families and other couples that would arrive to take photos of the beach and no one cared at all. The trail can be a bit narrow and steep get there but it is one of the most beautiful beaches in all of Maui.

I visited Hawai’i a half dozen times from 2005-ish to 2012-ish. Even then, 15-20 years ago, at least 1/3 of the women wore thongs, especially at places like Waikiki on Oahu or Ho’okipa, Baldwin, and Big Beach on Maui. Some women also did kiting and windsurfing in thongs. I bet thongs are even more common now. I would have no compunctions about wearing thongs on any of those beaches at this point, although it never occurred to me back in the day.

I’ve worn a swim thong on the Big Island no problem, both at the adults pool at the Hilton Waikoloa and a nearby beach. I’ve always been the only man, but with tons of women wearing swim thongs I’ve been totally comfortable, especially with my wife there.

Kaimana/San Souci and Ala Moana especially the western end (away from the big parking lot where the beach narrows and isn’t as crowded but the ocean entry is pretty rocky) are great. You’ll be around a lot of people at either location too.
