I’ll be headed to south Florida (east side) in a few weeks, and I’ve never worn a thong in public before, but I’m thinking about making the leap. What places in the Miami/Lauderdale area are the most “friendly” for a dude in a thong?
South Beach is your place and Haulover. Great nude beach and lots of thongs too.
From my past experience in Miami and surrounding areas, I’d say you could go absolutely anywhere. We stayed on 21st Street and spent time on the beach everywhere from the pier to the south and as far north as 30th. Nothing but positive vibes the whole time. Spent a lot of time walking the beach, in the water, etc. It can get crowded, so you may end up in close proximity to others, but no one ever seemed to notice even.
The biggest concern at the beach was jellyfish!
Since you’re in the area, Haulover is obviously worth a visit. Spent time on the textile areas of Haulover too, walking the beachfront in a thong, again with no issue.
Wife and I both tanned at the hotel pool, in a pretty “cozy” courtyard area. Got drinks at the pool area bar too, no concerns.
Honestly, any beach from South Beach to Fort Lauderdale. I’ve worn thongs and g-strings on South Beach, mid and north Miami Beach, Hollywood, Dania, Haulover (usually nude there), and at many resorts/hotels on Miami Beach, including the Ritz. Never an issue.
I’ve definitely been checking into Haulover!
Awesome thanks! Great info, I’ll look in that.
Nothing dramatic, but I just wanted to share my first experience wearing a thong in public. I just got back from a trip to Florida.
First I went to Haulover Beach in Miami, as many suggested. I got there around 10:30am on a Sunday and it was pretty empty, just a few old people laying out nude. I set up, stripped down to my thong, and got some sun. It slowly got more crowded, probably 2/3 with men. A few men just wore regular swimsuits and the rest went naked. It was nice and relaxing, and eventually I slipped off the thong and layed naked for a bit. It felt good.
After about 2 hours, I decided to head to South Beach. I knew I wouldn’t wear my thong there but just wanted to check it out. It was very busy (spring break) and a much more energetic vibe. I stayed for about 2 more hours, and then grabbed lunch.
On the way back to the hotel I stopped back and Haulover and it was much busier. There was a group of college aged kids (none naked) hanging out and I saw one other guy in a g-string. I stayed and got some more sun and headed back. It was a nice day, I was a little disappointed that I was pretty much the only guy that I saw in a thong swimsuit.
Two days later I had travelled much farther north to Apollo Beach, east of Orlando. It is a clothing optional beach. It was a Tuesday and it was only about 70 degress so when I got there at noon there was probably 5-7 people there, mostly nude men. I stayed for a bit and did the same routine: thong, then naked. A few more people showed up as the day went on. When I left around 2:30 the parking lot had filled up with mostly older people, seems like this was a place for the true nudists, which was fine.
I would love to go back to these beaches again, as it felt great to be out in a thong. I hope to maybe run into a few more like minded people next time. What are some other man thong friendly beaches I need to hit up?
Thanks for sharing your story and breaking barriers. It’s nervous at first, I been wearing a thong to the beach for only 8 months. More and more I don’t give a F, but I also get excited to wear and to be seen in a thong.
West Coast of Florida is friendly to thongs. Lido Beach, Passa-Grille, Sunset Beach, and Ft. Desoto Park to name a few.
All beaches in Volusia County are thong legal, with the exception of Ormond Beach.
How I knew thongs were OK on Daytona Beach is for several reasons.
-
I did my research before traveling.
-
I saw two sisters wearing g-strings (not thongs) and tiny tops on Daytona Beach every day I was there for two weeks in 2020. They were always in the same spot near the pier. As I was walking north towards the pier, they were always to the left of the driving lane. This part of the beach had no hotel, condo, or house there. After I saw them confidently wearing g-strings, I immediately switched from wearing a Cocksox swim brief to the men’s tear drop g-string from the-bikini.com. I wore a different color every day. One day they approached me and commented on my swimwear choice. They had a very thick Boston accent. The one sister kept complaining about not being able to go topless. I told her they could go to the nude Apollo Beach not far away. If I would have had my own car there, I would have offered to take them to the nude beach. You can’t miss them because they go to the beach every single day and their tan proved it.

When I was in Daytona, I got the best tan in my life. I wore a g-string as soon as I got out of the car. Every day, I confidently walked the length of the entire beach, regardless if it was desolate or crowded. I walked right through the crowds, families and all. Every so often I would take a quick shower or go into the ocean to cool down. Believe me when I tell you, I got A LOT of positive comments and a lot of pictures were taken, both with and without my permission. There were also a lot of whoops and hollers from the passing vehicles, beach side bars, and hotel pools. People were asking me if I was from Europe, they were telling me I had a lot of courage wearing such a small suit, telling me they would have done the same in their younger years, etc.

While there, I specifically asked the beach police and they said as long as the genitals are covered, you are good. In fact, as I was sitting in a beach chair one day, an officer drove up to me to ask if I was naked. I politely said no and he could see I was wearing a g-string. He just shook his head and drove off. I do not know about the hotel pools because I stayed with a friend in nearby Port Orange. You would have to call the hotels and ask. I think the Hilton would be the most accommodating with it being the most “international” hotel in the area.
I only had one negative experience towards the end of the trip where I was attacked by a woman as she was screaming at me for what I was wearing. I just told her to back off because it was legal. The next day one of the toll booth attendants suggested they would have called the police so I could have pressed assault charges. I said I would have declined anyway because I did not want to be standing 100 yards away from my setup spot, with no other clothes on, while wearing a white g-string, and being interrogated by the police. I thought it was best to remain calm and just walk away from the situation.
Would I do it again? ABSOLUTELY. I have zero issues wearing the most minimal swimwear wherever I go. As mentioned in other posts, I am always mindful of the environment and the rules, both legally and socially, and wear different coverage suits. It would be wonderful if I could just wear the g-strings at all locations, but this would not be accepted at the local swimming pool, at the nearby water parks, or at the PA state parks. This is why I am planning an epic trip to South Florida, either in the summer or fall of 2025 or 2026. I would start at Daytona Beach, work my way south through Fort Lauderdale, Miami, and Key West, and then came back up north on the gulf coast towards Tampa.
I found this:
In Ormond Beach, Florida, wearing a thong or similar skimpy attire is not permitted within city limits but is allowed on the beach, which is controlled by Volusia County.
And like you said, all Volusia county beaches thongs are allowed and I think Ormond is not the exception, now what is not permitted is wearing a thong outside the perimeter of the beach.
Actually I’m gonna ask a guy that I know who is a cop in Ormond and I let you know here.
I’d love to join you next time you’re down in Daytona.
Below shows the link where I read about Ormond Beach.
https://nofashionpolice.wordpress.com/are-thongs-legal/
– Volusia County: LEGAL, except for the city of Daytona Beach (see above) and Ormond Beach. The beach at Daytona Beach is under county jurisdiction, so thongs are legal on the beach there. They’re also legal in New Smyrna Beach and at Canaveral National Seashore.
Maybe I misread how it was written. After re-reading the first couple sentences, maybe it should have been written as such:
– Volusia County: LEGAL, except for the cities of Daytona Beach (see above) and Ormond Beach. The beaches at Daytona Beach and Ormond Beach are under county jurisdiction, so thongs are legal on the beach there. They’re also legal in New Smyrna Beach and at Canaveral National Seashore.
It never made sense to me why only one beach in all of Volusia County would not permit thongs. Clarification from your cop friend would be helpful.
Thank you.
