Thong Friendly Beaches in the United States

Hi Everyone,

I would love to find some good beaches to wear thongs. Anyone have any beaches they wear thongs or that they know thongs for men are acceptable?

@bs13gst are you looking for recommendations in any particular part of the world?

As a single male, I usually go to all the beaches in Volusia County, FL, where thongs and g-strings are legal. Additionally, because Daytona Beach has a lot of activities throughout the year, i.e. Bike Week, Race Week, Biketoberfest, Jeep Beach, etc., there is a lot to do other than just be on the beach getting sun. An added bonus is the Playalinda and Apollo nude beaches are not far away. If you live in the northeast U.S., it is easy to get there using the Autotrain. It goes to Sanford, FL, which is only 40 miles from Daytona Beach.

I’m in the midwest but just want to know because I would consider visiting any throughout the US if they’re out there

Beaches in Fort Lauderdale are more thong friendly than ever. Im out there every week. Never have problems.

Osterman Beach (aka Hollywood Beach) in Chicago is known to be thong friendly.

SunSplash is an option if you want to hang out in Florida with some like-minded people.

Clothing optional beaches are generally accepting of thong swimsuits. In addition to the ones @Bonzo69 mentioned, there’s Haulover in Miami-Dade County, Florida, Gunnison Beach in Sandy Hook, New Jersey, and Black’s Beach in San Diego, California.

Thongs are not illegal in Hawaii. In fact, they’re quite common in terms of the female crowd. However, on men, it’s quite uncommon. It may surprise you to know that most men in Hawaii wear surf shorts. Smaller swimwear on men is rare, even a brief/Speedo.

If you are going to thong at the beach, you’re totally within your rights. Just know that you’ll likely attract attention, positive or negative.

The good thing about Hawaii is that we have many, many secluded beaches that are off the beaten path. Those are the spots to let the cheeks out :-).

Being landlocked in North Central PA, I do not have many opportunities to publicly wear thongs locally. In 2024, I planned to get as much sun as possible this year, wearing the minimally permitted swimwear at each venue. Due to scheduling conflicts, I did not visit the local community pool (ironically only 100 yards from my house), I only went to one of two local PA state parks a couple times, I did not make it to any OH state parks where thongs are legal, and I went to a couple wave pools in Pittsburgh.

In 2025, I do plan travel extensively, including a few naturist resorts in PA and WV, Sand Hook Beach and Gunnison Beach in NJ, beaches in FL including Daytona Beach, Apollo Beach, Haulover Beach, South Beach, and Fort Meyers Beach, and possibly some hotel pools in Las Vegas and Arizona. I know this is a lot of places to visit, but if I start in FL in March, I may be able to get to most places next year. If not, this goal will roll right into 2025, 2026, etc. I would also like to partake in events such as the monthly Underwear Bike Ride in Pittsburgh (I have received confirmation from the event organizer thongs are permitted), the WNBR in Philadelphia, and Fantasy Fest in Key West.

My swimwear collection includes the following, in order of coverage. As you can see, I am a huge fan of the Cocksox swimwear.

Cocksox CX08 Swim Trunks in all solid colors - In my opinion, these can be worn anywhere. I have work these to the local, conservative pool literally in my backyard. Some people may be shocked in this conservative environment, but there is plenty of coverage, the colors are opaque, and there is no bulge.

Cocksox CX02 Swim Briefs in all solid colors - I have worn these to the local PA state parks where thongs and g-strings are not permitted. I have had zero issues. I have also worn these at all beaches in Volusia County, FL with zero issues. The coverage is minimal while having all necessary areas covered, most of the colors are opaque (there is a little bit of sheerness in the lighter colors when wet but it practically dries by the time you get back to the towel), and there is an outward profile in the front, but not like the extreme missile suits I have seen online.

Cocksox CX22 Swim Thongs in all solid colors - I have worn these to the wave pools in Pittsburgh with zero issues. I feel confident I will also be able to wear these at any beach in NJ and FL but I will have the CX02 swim briefs and the CX08 swim trunks as backups. The coverage in front is similar to the CX02 swim brief, most of the colors are opaque, and there is a slight outward profile in the front, but not as much as the CX02 swim brief.

the-bikini.com - Men Tear Drop in 5 solid colors and 4 sheer colors - These are the most revealing suits I have, with the solid colors being opaque and the sheer being see through, especially when wet. I have worn the solid colors to the beaches in Volusia County, FL. With only one negative incident from a single individual. I was wearing the solid white g-string and it was dry and opaque. I feel I can wear the opaque g-strings wherever thongs and g-strings are permitted. I only plan to wear the sheer g-strings at private pool parties, just tanning on most beaches in FL (not walking into the water or walking along the beach), walking from the car to my setup site at any nude beach, and possibly doing anything at South Beach. I will have to “test the waters” in Miami. If the sheer g-strings are too much at South Beach, I will be prepared to switch to solid g-strings on a moment’s notice.

I’ve had great luck in Miami and LA. Any nude beach should be fine.

I’m in the Midwest and have also had great luck in Chicago. As mentioned, Osterman Beach is very accepting and nearby Montrose Beach is also great.

In Minneapolis, male thongs have become pretty popular at Lake Bde Maka Ska (previously Lake Calhoun). There are three beaches there, but Thomas Beach and 32nd St Beach were both great when I was there.

And I know this place doesn’t have a beach, but Vegas is great as well for general thong acceptance. I’ve been there close to 20 times and have stayed at numerous hotels. I have only had one issue and that dude was very drunk and his wife was asking me for a picture, lol. Stay away from Flamingo, though. I was there a few years ago, and they had a “no speedos” rule, so guys in thongs will not fly even though there are tons of ladies in thongs there.

Hey, there. Yes, Bde Maka Ska is good, but Cedar Lake is even better. Especially East Cedar Lake Beach. That beach is super popular for women who wear thongs and some go topless, which is perfectly legal at all Mpls parks now. I’ve seen at least a dozen different guys wearing thongs there in the past year and lots of regulars (both men and women). I’ve heard Osterman is also good for a Midwestern beach.
