Trip report - Curaçao

I’m Canadian and currently on my flight home. I don’t know if people find this informative or not. I wanted to report back about my experience travelling to Curaçao. Went for 10 days. Travelled with my spouse and 2 young kids. I’ve been into swim briefs for many years and only recently got into swim thongs in the last couple years - mostly for the way it makes me feel, the tan lines, and I often like being different and going against the grain. Not “showing off” but merely being myself. I don’t feel like people should be kept in a box and it’s not fair for anyone to say only men (or women) should behave or present a certain way that fits with their perceived gender.

I wore thongs maybe half the time on this trip and the other time swim briefs. I was on the beach or at a resort pool almost the entire time on this trip with the exception of exploring Willemstad and in the evenings. There wasn’t a single negative comment nor did anyone really have any reactions at all. There were maybe a few looks but that’s about it. But this is expected. People normally avoid commenting on others’ appearances, etc in my experience. Especially while on vacation where everyone is there to mind their own business and relax. I was even more comfortable wearing swim thongs than I ever have been in the past and I expect this to continue. This trip was for my 40th birthday and I’m not getting any younger. So may as well live my best life.

I did not see any other men wearing swim thongs and there was only a small handful of other men even in very conservative briefs. I’ll never understand why someone would choose to wear shorts or even worse - long board shorts in 90-100 degree weather.

I recently did get a custom pair of swim briefs from a fetish wear Canadian designer Kennie Mas who I absolutely adore and recommend by the way. I ordered his Kennie Mas logo swim briefs and swim thong. I only did take the briefs on this trip though. My custom order/only change I made was a pink bow on the front of both. For some odd reason I noticed I felt self-conscious walking around with the bow on display. I mentioned this to my spouse and she said “why, are bows not family friendly?”, to which I realised she was completely right. It felt like I shouldn’t display my feminine side in public, which shouldn’t be the case. This thought almost makes me feel like men shouldn’t show any feminine characteristics which is not okay. Femininity should be powerful whether it is a man or woman. I want to say that if anyone does look into Kennie Mas products, the wait is quite long probably because my guess is that he’s busy. Turnaround time in my experience is 2-3 months to receive it. But his products are so worth it.

I have the full support of my spouse which is very very weird to say considering that it’s only swimwear. Saying this makes it sounds like we’re doing something devious or something that we shouldn’t be doing - all of which is so far from the truth. But I understand why men say that here. It’s also in a way heartbreaking that some men experience no support or even worse - disdain for it from their partner. I feel for all of you. Please know you have all of our support. Anyway, I’ve went off on a tangent.

This is certainly what I expected in Curaçao. But that is perfectly fine. If men want to wear pants in the water they can go right ahead. I like to show by example by showing “this is okay and it’s okay for you too, regardless of any other factors”.

Curaçao is a beautiful country. But there’s so many places in the world to visit so I’m not sure I will ever return. However, I highly recommend it.

Thank you for such a wonderful report. It sounds like your time in Curaçao was absolutely amazing. I fully appreciate your perspective as I will be headed to Curaçao in a few weeks. Your report gives me the encouragement that wearing a thong on the beaches will be no big deal.

Oh that’s great. I hope you have a great time! My favourite beach was probably Kokomo beach or Playa Forti (surrounded by cliffs). Playa Forti was very quiet and a great chance to build up your thong confidence if needed. It was hard to spend all day at a beach though with young kids as they often wanted to go back to the hotel pool.

I definitely recommend trying some of the local food and of course the smoothies. 100% Batidos food truck in Willemstad is by far the best smoothies on the island IMO.
