First of all, as a new user I really enjoy this site! As a 63 year old thong wearer with over 40 years of wearing thong swimsuits of various types I’ve noticed there are a lot of variations. I found some cheeky suits that are what I would call thongs…..but are also very close to briefs. I really like them and wonder if they would pass in an area that doesn’t allow thongs. Any wisdom would be appreciated.
I’ve read some locals use a ruler to determine if your suit violates their rules. So if you use that as your guide…beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
If a pool has a no thongs rule, I assume it means no revealing swimwear (i.e., nothing skimpier than a standard swim brief). It’s a strong signal that:
- People are likely to complain
- The staff will err on the side of asking you to change
Whether or not you want to test the limits of the policy is up to you, but I would try to find a place with fewer restrictions.
My rule is, don’t be that guy wearing a smaller suit than any of the women. No women in thongs is a clear signal that, as a guy, you should not be in one either.
Since early summer, I have always tried to find a spot where other people (mostly women) were wearing a thong.
With that said, as the summer progressed my thong preference evolved to where I favored the smaller, micro style. And if I happened to be wearing the smallest thong amongst other thong wearers, so be it.
However, if I went to a beach and didn’t see anyone else wearing a thong, I would often find my own spot away from others.
On one of three occasions where I wore a thong to an outdoor hotel pool (one occasion I was alone and the other two there was about ten people), it was blazing hot (98 degrees or so) and while I’m sure I raised a couple of eyebrows from the other guests I said “Go for it” and laid out in a micro and even went for two swims in the pool. At this particular hotel, I did call in advance to make sure thongs were okay)
In truth my rule is more a personal guideline than a law. ![]()
On a big beach, finding a quiet spot works for me. If someone doesn’t like it, they can keep walking.
And when late September rolled around at my usual beach, the thongs on women got a little bigger but I kept wearing my M67s.
Definitely a gray area but I feel like if there is a strip of fabric that separates the butt checks, it’s a thong. If there’s enough material to bunch up between the butt cheeks, it a cheeky suit and not a thong.
