This topic gone a bit quiet lately, so thought I would post my latest. I swam 2.2 kms this morning at Lara pool, in Victoria, Australia. The pool is a 55 yard pool, 6 lanes and pretty old, but well maintained. It is sadly under utilised by the locals, and on a mild morning of 18 degrees, there were only 5 people there. I wore a Kiniki tan through thong, in the hot leopard design. The front has good coverage with a thong back. My usual female swim buddy swam with me, and she is used to my thong preference. Another younger friend of hers also joined us. I was unsure how she might react to the thong, but she seemed totally unfazed, and we enjoyed a great swim together.
I need to visit Melbourne Australia soon. Definitely want to swim laps in pools there, and go back to Byron Bay, squeaky beach. My cousin told me one side is a nude beach.
I have an endless pool….so it’s just me, I love the feel of the water when wearing a thong. I prefer it to nothing as it keeps things in place.
My modest size kibbles and bits also agree thong swimwear is the ideal for lap swimming.![]()
It’s now Summer in Australia, and I haven’t gone back to my usual local Olympic pool, but stuck with thongs each morning in the ocean baths instead. Even had a second daytime swim last week. No hassles whatsoever.
Give your local pool a try. I have swum all year in council outdoor pools in Geelong, and worn a thong for roughly half of those swim. I wear Kiniki tan through thongs, and I only have a very small tan line on the hip and upper bum crack area.
I will give it a try. I am intending to get to the one I previously used through winter. They had specific signage that said what was and wasn’t appropriate clothing to wear in the pool, and thong swimwear was listed as inappropriate. The last time I visited it had been removed. Can’t even see any dress policy on their website anymore. I have swam there a number of times in a thong, during quiet daylight hours over the years. time to test that again…
Best of luck. Hopefully the rule was removed and it’s no longer an issue. Perhaps you can speak to a manager and confirm before doing so to avoid unnecesary conflict with patrons. In my experience, management never had issues. Only one person was offended.
Lap swimmers: what brands are you doing laps in? Are there any brands that make polyester swim thongs? When I switched from nylon+elastane to polyester briefs, the difference in durability and longevity was night and day. Hoping to find the same for thongs.
Can’t think of any poly suits off the top of my head but I’ve done a ton of laps in Desmiit thongs. 5 days a week for at least an hr I get about 3-4 months easy. You can find them online for less than $10 if you look around.
I usually wear polyester nylon blend thong swimwear from aliexpress. Some are better fabrics than others and in general has lasted. You get what you pay for, absolutely. I can’t justify spending ~$50 for a swim thong. My only brand thong from Vacquita the label is very well made material and I expect to last many years. The pouch is larger than I would like for my modest size. I prefer minimal, flat front and back with sufficient string band to hold in place.
I usually swim laps in one from Bang Clothes. They’re pricey but they fit really well and they hold up like champs
There’s a pool local to me where the dress code is “appropriate swim attire, which means no cut-offs, short, t-shirts, rivets, buttons, or zippers”. There’s a nearby park where I’ve seen women sunning in thongs on summer days. On the one hand, Cambridge is one of the most liberal places in the country, but on the other hand even liberals can be stodgy. I should really test it sometime…
Most of my thongs are by English brand Kiniki. I have 4 in tan through material, which is quite effective, and 2 in a Lycra blend material. They have a front only just less than a regular speedo, but a thong back which shows plenty of butt.
Did 2 km this morning with swim buddy Debbie. She is now used to me wearing a thong. It was only last year when a lifeguard showed some interest in my “ funky bathers”. I had started wearing tanga style bathers, which have only skinny string sides, and half back coverage. She liked them, and went and bought some of that brand for herself, and her boyfriend. She bought thong style for herself, and she had a very nice figure, so they would have looked great on her.
When we swam was at the same time as a swim squad. The girls in that squad seemed to revel in their bathers disappearing between their cheeks. I commented to the guard that if the squad girls, and many other non squad bathers were allowed to show their bums, then it would be discrimination to not allow men to do the same.
After that I started testing the thong waters, and have been regularly lap swimming in them since.
I enjoy these stories because it keeps my hopes that it will become more normal everywhere. I also swam 2500 yards this morning. I’m still pretty much the only person to wear a thong at my gym but nobody cares. There has only been one time a woman wore one at this location.
I was in Las Vegas for a work conference and stayed at MGM Grand. Most pools in Dec are closed for maintenence but MGM had one pool and jacuzzi open and it was heated. It was in the mid 40s to 50s (Fahrenheit/Air Temp) but I talked to the life guard and the pool was set at 102. I decided to strip down to my swim thong and do laps. They had 2 life guards that sat there bored off their butts because only a handful of people were out by the pool. It was sunny but really cold when I got out so wrapped myself in two towels right away. This was a first for me wearing a swing thong at a public pool and I just acted normal and it felt good. Not one said anything. Met a mom and her little grand daughter from Portland and we just had a pleasant conversation, again no thongs mentioned. I’m sure the life guards enjoyed the view. It was a big step for me and would definitely try it again if I go out to Vegas next year for work. Took a couple pictures and my girlfriend joined me in her thong too.
Hello from Portland! Glad to hear you had a pleasant experience with the lady you met. I’m not surprised as thongs are very common in Portland at beaches and hot springs.
Final swim before Xmas today, so did 2.2 kms with buddie Debbie. I wore a new thong from Aussie Togs, which was their surf thong in the Australian Flag design. I was very happy with the comfort and quality. There was plenty of room for genitalia, and thin enough thong strap without being too thin and g string like.
There were 2 lifeguards on duty, and 1 was basically just scrubbing the end of the pool in and around our lane. I do tumble turns, so both must have got a good look at my butt as I rotated. Nothing said as usual. Interestingly, there was another thonger also swimming at the same time. We have seen him before, and he makes his own thong swimwear. His are g sting like at the back, with modest front cover. Must get one like that.
I talked to him afterwards, and we both agreed to continue making mens thong wearing more commonplace.
I swim laps at a local municipal pool, and I always have my thong swimsuits ready. However, since the pool is open to the public, it can get really crowded, and I don’t always have the confidence to swim in a thong when there are a lot of people around. That doesn’t mean I have not swum in a thong before.
My strategy going forward is to arrive at the pool about 40 minutes before closing. It tends to be less crowded around closing time, so that would mean fewer eyes to watch out for.
