Most of the time I come across a new brand, I add it to the ever-growing list of brands and never open the store page again. This one, however, caught my eye and seemed worth a try.
Jonny Boy was started a little more than three years ago by Jonathan Houston, who, in addition to running the company, models all of the products. The collection includes one swim thong in six different solid colors with sizes ranging from small to XXL.
The Jonny Boy swim thong is a basic design. It has a center-seamed front panel that’s relatively wide at the top, giving it a slightly more modest, less contoured fit than some other brands. The front is lined. The rise is short, similar to brands like N2N, so if you’re between sizes, you may want to heed the advice on the website and get the larger size. It fits snugly against the legs, and the fabrics are soft and stretchy. I’d prefer some different colors, but green (“Palm”) looks good on me. There’s a “J” logo on the back. The tag is sewn into the back and removing it doesn’t seem possible without risking damage to the swimsuit. It’s not a deal-breaker, but I wish more brands would adopt the removable tags that are common these days.
At $48, Jonny Boy is contending with some strong competition from established brands. If it had a slightly higher rise and was available in more colors and patterns to my taste, it would definitely be one of my top picks, but it’s a solid entry.
