I’m predisposed to dislike most things that are trending on social media. There are too many shills, and the products rarely live up to the hype.
Rayze Swimwear checks all the wrong boxes:
The brand exists almost entirely on Instagram.
Their products appear to be universally adored.
Their biggest supporter is a genuine fan creator using thong swimwear to promote their adults only content.
But, if I suppress my cynicism, it’s not all bad. Rayze (formerly known as Nutshack) is a relatively new brand. The origin story is similar to N2N’s. The founder started making swimsuits for himself, they caught the attention of other swimmers at the pool, and a new business was born. If you’d like to learn more about the brand, the founder was interviewed on the Brief Talk Podcast.
I like to support small businesses, especially when they align with my interests, so I decided to give Rayze Swimwear a try. I ordered two small swim thongs from the Rayze Swimwear Etsy shop. They recently launched a website, but most products are still sold through Etsy.
The founder of Rayze Swimwear is a lap swimmer, and his designs are clearly inspired by the athletic swim briefs made by popular brands. The Rayze swim thong is reminiscent of the discontinued Speedo thong, which, for many, has never been replaced, so I can see why it’s so popular. It’s lined and has an internal drawstring, which appears to be a white shoelace. There’s a logo on the back and a small tag with the size. Razye offers solids, but seems to be more focused on prints. Some are a bit too silly for my taste, but there are plenty of options. They are clearly homemade, but are well constructed.
My first thought when I opened the package was that the swimsuits looked a little big. Trying them on confirmed that they were too roomy in the waist. Undeterred, I ordered a couple of extra small thongs to see if they’d be a better fit. One fit more comfortably. The other, however, was indistinguishable from the small swimsuits size-wise.
Most athletic swim briefs have a flat front panel. Thong swimwear brands often design the front panel for a more contoured, natural fit. The Rayze swim thong takes that idea a bit too far. The front panel, which has a seam all the way down the center, adds unnecessary space near the waistband. It looks okay when the swimsuit is dry, but fills with air when it’s wet and bunches up when seated.
Consistent sizing would make the Rayze Swimwear thong a decent swimsuit. Some tweaks to the design would make it a great one. As it stands now, however, there are other brands at this price point I prefer. I will definitely keep an eye on Razye Swimwear. If they continue to #RayzeTheBar, they have the potential to become a top tier brand.
Have you tried the Rayze Swimwear thong? What did you think?
