Does anyone else find that the more you wear thongs, the more your preferences shift toward less coverage and more revealing fabrics over time?
I think that’s normal. The more you wear them, especially as you get more comfortable wearing them in public, the more comfortable you get with smaller styles and revealing fabrics. That certainly was my personal experience.
For me, I try to find a balance. I like skimpy on the side and back (Skinz M67, M25, Grand Axis) but also good lined cover in the front so it’s not so revealing.
Yeah, I have a few M67, M25, and M31s. I like the fronts on them for more public areas.
Speaking to a couple of obvious Skinz fans…I’m an M77 guy for my “go to” in more public places, but my absolute favorite when I can get away with it is the M55. I think this speaks to your original post in that my preferred suit has evolved over time to one of the most skimpy ones.
I wear very thin, narrow thongs when laying out that I will use for a dip in the ocean, but I equally wear thongs with 2-3 inch sides for long walks or the walk to the beach. These don’t turn too many heads as from the front and the side they look like regular Speedos and the rear may appear to be a Speedo riding up. They look very sporty and athletic, and I’ve gotten a ton of compliments.
The thin and narrow ones do get more looks, but they are pretty exclusively for laying out and I tend to keep to myself, so, unless you’re right around my area, they don’t get the same amount of attention. But I do enjoy them more.
I don’t know why exactly. I am not an exhibitionist per se. I don’t like negative reactions or confrontations, but there is a liberating and empowering experience that goes with this suit and not the other, even if no one is around—and I often I prefer it that way. It is when there are very few people around that I enjoy the most taking these for a short stroll.
So yes, in the 20 or so years I’ve been sunning in these suits, the smaller they’ve become, hitting a peak about 10 years ago.
(I mean, they can’t get too much smaller, can they?!)
Are you asking about a thong just becoming more transparent the more you wear it (i.e. wear and tear)?
Or do you mean the more comfortable you get wearing a thong the more you move towards the more revealing styles?
Based on the discussion, I think it’s fair to assume that @Yback intended to ask the latter question. I updated the original post to make that clearer.
Well, in that case, I’m not really sure. I’ve only been doing this one year and am approaching my second beach season. But so far, I still seem to have the same, more conservative approach to my thong preferences.
I wear conservative thongs at the beach, like the DESMIIT, or BANG, but I wear very minimalistic ones only around my own pool to minimize tanlines. At the beach a classic thong is already minimalist for people, I don’t want to be provocative and I would not be confident in a G-string. If I want less coverage I go to a nudist beach and wear nothing.
I wear a conservative thong too, most of the guys I see at the beach go for the g-string and sheer. Good for them but I don’t think I could ever wear that at the beach. I find it slightly humorous when I see a couple and the guy is wearing a thong or g-string but the wife is wearing a full bottom.
I’m a M55 guy, but my wife prefers the M77 at a more crowded beach.
I think many of us have a natural inclination to want to try smaller and smaller suits over time. Most of us probably gave a thong a try after first feeling the freedom of wearing a more modest Speedo/swim brief. However, it’s definitely more about curiosity regarding skimpier gear for me than about changing what I typically wear. While I enjoy trying a skimpy teardrop g-string, it’s not going to be my norm because I think I look better in a more “traditional” thong, find them more comfortable, and like the tan line they provide. The barely there designs are only going to see the light of day outside my home if I’m at a clothing optional beach and using them as temporary coverage.
I’ve definitely evolved over the years. I lean more toward traditional thongs rather than g-strings these days. I even wear a Brazilian cut from time to time, sort of like a small boy short. Most of the feedback I’ve gotten is that “fuller” looking thongs compliment by shape better. I’ll still break out my string if I feel like it, but it’s no longer my go to.
@HizuruTees, I’ll need directions to that beach
I started with a few thongs that were lined and had wider straps, but now I like them unlined and skimpier. Joe Snyder Bulge thongs are my favorite. Love the tan lines.
