Personally, I lean toward thongs. Thongs are commonplace where I live, but most people choose less revealing swimwear. G-strings are rare. I feel more comfortable and confident wearing a thong in public.
The fit of thong swimsuits is more flattering to my eye. Most of the g-strings I’ve tried are too boxy. I like the y-back g-strings from Skinz, but I haven’t found any others that suit my taste.
Finally, I appreciate the variety that’s available. It used to be difficult to find thong swimsuits. These days, they’re sold by many brands. G-strings aren’t hard to come by, but they’re not as ubiquitous. I’m not the type to pick a favorite swimsuit and wear it exclusively. Sometimes I prefer a full coverage, lined, solid color thong with a drawstring. On other occasions, I opt for a skimpy, unlined thong with a fun print. It’s nice to have options.

I wear thongs wherever I can but do prefer the bareness of a g. I have about thirty thongs but only about 5 g’s. I look forward to the day when g’s become more common. Guess I should wear mine more often then!

Following on from my previous post, I think that one of the practical issues that inhibits the wearing of g-strings in public is the obvious one that, from a distance, you look naked particularly if the side strings are either very small or of a nude colour or see through. Such an interpretation might result in a complaint about a naked person on the beach or wherever you happen to be

G-strings hands down! Wear mine for tanning and nothing else comes close to being naked when not allowed. Definitely in the backyard and beach in Ohio. When in Florida, uniform of the day.

Tough call because I love both! definitely leaning towards g strings. I love the skimpier ones

A guy was sitting on a towel on the beach and I had my back toward him. He complained about seeing my ass at eye level, so now I wear thongs that have a wider back strap. They have a tight flat front so they look and feel nice in front too, and stay on in rough surf.

Thongs for me, I like from the front it looks like a speedo, the back, well you know. However, a lot of guys at the beach I’m at opt for a g-string. I guess I’m more on the conservative side. From a far, they do look naked, but hey good for them. I have wore a g-string myself, but when no one was around. I prefer the tan line of a thong.

I wear thongs and I don’t have any g-strings BUT many of the thongs I have are minimalist and can pass as g-strings. Generally I like the firmer fit of a thong as g-strings can fit too loose for my personal taste.

Out in general public I prefer a thong as I still get plenty of sun, but people can tell I’m not naked.

I prefer thongs cause I love the way they shape the booty. They also seem to be more comfortable to me. And enjoy having a thong tanline. Only time I wear g strings is if I’m trying to not have a panty line under something tight fitting.

I rarely use g-strings, only because I find that the thinner strap tends to irritate my backside a bit more. Also, for some reason, given the shape of my behind, thongs seem to compliment my figure better.

While I mostly wear thongs, many of them are so small they would almost qualify as a g-string. That said, my preference is a g-string, and I will wear one whenever I can.

I have a few very nice Stuff-it Pouch G-strings from Skinz that fit me well, but I actually prefer to wear a thong for everyday wear and on the beach.

Well, if I’m at the beach the g-string might get picked first and that’s only if it oozes sex appeal. I wear both but my motto at the beach is less is best. This excludes going nude.

I’m going to agree with those who’ve chosen thong. The wider back strap stays in place better and is more comfortable to me. They also produce the sexiest tan lines. That being said, I do love wearing a really skimpy g-string on occasion. I really love the teardrop suit from Skinz.

For sun tanning, I always wear a thong. I think they make better tan lines. For lounging about, I usually wear a g-string. And the brighter the pattern, the better.

I live in the Seattle metropolitan area.
A decade ago, thongs were a rare sight, but they’ve been normalized in more recent years. It’s typically to see at least one other person wearing a thong at the waterfront parks in the summertime. Thongs are legal in most cities, and, while the vast majority of people wear more modest swimsuits, they are generally accepted.
