California Wine Country (Napa & Sonoma County)

Nobody has mentioned thonging in Napa yet.

Was just at the hotel pool for about an hour then a bunch of kids showed up so my wife “time to put your shorts on”

Good point! I did wear my thong at the pool and hot tub several times when we stayed at the Napa Valley Lodge 2 years ago. No issues at all.

For the past few summers, my wife and I have spent a long weekend in Wine Country. The first time we visited was to attend one of Blue Note Napa’s outdoor concerts. We had such a good time that we’ve been returning every year since.

If you enjoy good food, wine, and a beautiful landscape, it’s a wonderful place to visit. We prefer finding boutique hotels that cater to couples. They don’t forbid children, but if all the rooms have one bed, there are always fewer kids around. Since most places require reservations, we plan our days in advance. I prefer not to be too rushed and try to leave time in the afternoons to relax at the hotel before dinner.

It was 100°F the day we arrived, but the weather was more moderate for the rest of our trip. Despite the warm weather, the pool was never very busy. There were never more than a few people, and at times, we had the place to ourselves. I wore thongs every day of our visit. As I tend to do, I packed way more swimsuits than I could have possibly worn during our short trip. Fortunately, they don’t take up much room. I generally don’t wear anything skimpier than a thong in public, but I did bring a couple of g-strings, one of which I wore when we enjoyed a soak in the hot tub one night when no one else was around.

Everyone else’s attire was considerably more conservative than mine, but for the most part, no one paid any attention to what I was wearing. On our final afternoon, another couple came to the pool after we’d arrived. I’m not good at guessing ages, but they looked a fair bit older than my wife and me. The man seemed to want to make sure his partner saw me, but I didn’t hear what they said, and they didn’t cause any trouble.

All in all, it was an enjoyable trip. Although swimming and sunning weren’t the primary focus, I was able to spend more time in my thong swimsuit than I had at home this summer. The weather has been quite variable this year, and I haven’t had many opportunities to wear one outside. It was nice to get away and spend some time by the pool.
